Education & Career
A graduate from The Indian Institute of Techonology, Delhi and an MBA from The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Dr. Rajan went on to doing his PhD from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Rajan is the Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business.
Prior to resuming teaching, Dr. Rajan was the Economic Counsellor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund between 2003 and 2006. He currently chairs a high level committee set up by the Indian Planning Commission to propose financial sector reforms in India.
Dr. Rajan’s research interests focus primarily on economic development, and the role finance plays in it.
Awards
In January 2003, the American Finance Association awarded Dr. Rajan the inaugural Fischer Black Prize, given every two years to the financial economist under age 40 who has made the most significant contribution to the theory and practice of finance.
Boards
Dr. Rajan has served on the editorial board of the American Economic Review and the Journal of Finance.
Books
His papers have been published in all the top economics and finance journals. He has also written a book with Luigi Zingales entitled Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists.
