Education & Career
Bibek Debroy was educated at Presidency College, Kolkata. He obtained his Masters at the Delhi School of Economics (Delhi University) and his M.Sc in Economics at the University of Cambridge, UK.
An academic par excellence, he has taught at the Delhi University, University of Cambridge, Presidency College, Calcutta, Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics, and at The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi.
Professor Debroy’s past positions include consulting for the Department of Economics Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India (1995); Director of the project LARGE (Legal Adjustments and Reforms for Globalizing the Economy); Director for the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies (from 1997-2005); Secretary General, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2005 -2007).
He is currently a professor at the International Management Institute and a research professor at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi.
Books authored and co-authored
Prof. Debroy has authored innumerable books, papers and popular articles, and has been the Consulting Editor of some of the most prominent financial newspapers in the country. At present he is a Contributing Editor with The Indian Express.
Some of his most recent books include The Indian Economy: Towards a Take-Off (2004) and Intellectual Property Rights Beyond 2005, An Indian Perspective on the debate on IPR protection and the WTO, jointly with Amir Ullah Khan, D.C. Books, 2004.
